Kiev seems like a perfect poster child or better yet poster band for Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. With each band member working a day job to stay financially stable The Orange County Register’s Kelli Skye Fadroski notes about Kiev in a recent article “virtually all free time is spent working on new music, making old material better, or booking local shows.” The group practices five times a week at a warehouse where they store their instruments. Broadcasting their work inside the warehouse onto the Internet Kiev gives fans unique insight into the music making process. Over the past year the band began building momentum winning an OC Music Award for “Best Indie Band” and receiving a nomination for “Best Live Band.” These accolades only mean so much though. As many in the music industry will tell you the greatest praise an artist can receive come from the fans, a couple of which we have spoken with. Los Angeles resident Nicholas Kramer admires Kiev explaining “I have a ton of appreciation and awe for musicians that play multiple instruments. “ Instruments besides the standard guitar, bass, and drumsKiev incorporates into their sound include piano, keyboard, and saxophone. Fellow Californian Gaby Gonzalez goes to validate Kiev’s “Best Live Band” nomination calling the group an “amazing live act.” The positive vibe surrounding Kiev extends internally to the band members. Drummer Brandon Corn told Fadroski in an interview for The Orange County Register “I feel like this is the strongest we’ve ever been.” The group’s history goes back close to seven years and includes a near two year hiatus caused by the band members’ personal dissatisfaction with their music. Obviously Kiev rediscovered their creative muse as the band will soon release a new EP “Be Gone Dull Cage & Others.” In fact for $12 you can obtain a special pre-release edition of the upcoming EP along with your ticket for Saturday. Considering regular tickets run $10 you might as well spend the extra two bucks for the combined ticket/”Be Gone Dull Cage & Others” EP package. Besides Kiev the Rye Douglas Band, Hindu Pirates, the Union Line, and Pacific Hurt will play House of Blues Anaheim Saturday, October 15th. A festive atmosphere should linger within the venue as the Rye Douglas Band and Hindu Pirates will both be celebrating record releases. Doors open at 7:00pm with the live local music beginning an hour later. If you love music and have nothing to do this Saturday night, make your way out toHouse of Blues Anaheim and help Sweet Relief Musicians Fund support local music.
